“The first step to having healthy skin is knowing and understanding your skin type,” says…
Meet Amy Heidelberg, Nurse Practitioner
Amy Heidelberg, nurse practitioner at Price Skin Care Clinic, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Mississippi Medical Center and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Originally an elementary school teacher, Amy studied education at Mississippi State University. After taking time to raise her three children, Will, Jack and Eliza, she decided to try something new.
“I wanted to take the skills I learned as both a teacher and a mother and apply them to the medical field,”she said.
After nursing school, Amy worked in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital where she gained invaluable nursing experience and learned to perform calmly under pressure. However, she knew she wanted to specialize further and continue her education to become a nurse practitioner.
Growing up in Miami, Florida, Amy spent a lot of time in the sun, unaware of the harmful effects it can cause later in life.
“My dad worked outside every day, and we never thought about the importance of protecting your skin,” she said. “It wasn’t until later that I realized how important it is to follow healthy skincare practices and have regular skin exams.”
As a nurse practitioner specializing in skin care, Amy’s focus is to detect and treat cancerous spots and to educate her patients about disease prevention and healthy skincare practices.
“I love helping patients feel better in their own skin. Whether clearing up acne or improving itchiness from eczema, I strive to enhance each patient’s quality of life through healthier skin,” says Amy.
