Set Healthy Skin Care Goals for 2018
January is the traditional time of year when many of us make New Year’s resolutions and set goals for the upcoming year.
If you’re setting resolutions for your health, why not set some healthy skin care goals for 2018?
Here are some ideas to get you started!
Wash Your Face Before Bed
You probably wash your face as part of your morning routine, but you should also wash it before going to bed. Unwashed skin can lead to clogged pores causing acne and other skin problems. Wash your face twice a day for optimum results.
Take Off Makeup Daily
In the same vein, take off your makeup every night. Your skin repairs itself while you sleep but leaving makeup on inhibits that and clogs pores. A habit of sleeping with makeup over years can cause acne, collagen breakdown and even premature aging.
Use Lip Balm Daily
It’s easy to forget about your lips but they are part of your skin and require care as well. Use your favorite lip balm or chapstick to keep moisture on your lips and prevent chapping, cracking and peeling.
Drink More Water
Drinking more water will help improve your skin from the inside out. In fact, it’s one of the healthiest – and least expensive – things you can do for your skin. Drink half your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water daily. For example, a 140 pound woman should drink about 70 ounces of water each day. See this post for more information about the importance of water.
Eat Healthier
Unhealthy eating is not only bad for the insides of our bodies but for the skin as well. Foods loaded with starches and sugars not only cause acne, but can cause dark circles under the eyes, reduced tone and increased lines and wrinkles. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables and whole grains – the healthy stuff!
Get More Sleep
If you need an excuse for more sleep, then healthier skin is a good one. When you sleep, your skin produces new collage so the more sleep you get, the more collagen your body makes. Sleep also increases blood flow to the skin, inhibits puffiness and even dark circles under your eyes.
Use Retinols
Getting on a retinol regiment is another healthy goal for 2018. Retinols work to unplug pores, clear up acne, reduce lines, boost collagen and improve skin texture. They are also the only proven ingredient for reducing wrinkles.
In fact, at Price Skin Care Clinic we offer Obagi’s Retin-A (Tretoinin) for purchase. Call or drop by our office and ask for more information about this high-quality skin care product!
Get a Monthly Facial
Having a regular facial is a bit like having your house deep-cleaned. Even if you wash your face twice a day and take your makeup off every night, a regular facial helps to eliminate old cells and bring that healthy skin to the surface. A regular facial – say, once a month – will improve the texture, tone and health of your facial skin.
See a Skin Doctor Annually
Don’t wait until there’s a problem to see your skin doctor. There’s more at stake than lines, wrinkles and acne. During an annual skin exam, your doctor will offer suggestions for healthier skin but also make sure you have no problem moles or signs of skin cancer.
